Our Vision and Beliefs
As a congregation in the Evangelical Presbyterian Church, we hold to the beliefs of the EPC stated in the Essentials of Our Faith and Westminster Confession of Faith (https://epc.org/about/beliefs/).
In addition, in recent years Mill Creek has developed the following statement of faith:
“Let all things be done decently and in order”
I Corinthians 14:40
Preamble
We, brothers and sisters of the Mill Creek United Presbyterian Church of Hookstown, having been duly elected by our congregation voluntarily submit, in one accord, this Statement of Faith, stating in unison, the beliefs of our congregation.
We believe the following: All authority comes from God. The Scriptures, written by godly men inspired by the Holy Spirit, contain the final authority on all matters concerning living and dying. “All scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
Biblical References: Psalm 119:160, II Timothy 3:16-17, II Peter 1:20-21, Revelation 22:18-19
We believe the following: There is one true and living God: all-knowing, all-powerful, present everywhere simultaneously. The Almighty God exists eternally in three persons being the first person of the Godhead. He is the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, equal in power, essence and glory.
Biblical References: Psalm 139:1-12, I John 5:7
We believe the following: Jesus is the only Son of God. We believe He is the second person of the Godhead. He was with God the Father and the Holy Spirit in the beginning. He was born of a virgin through the power of the Holy Spirit. He is the fulfillment of the prophecy given to the prophet Isaiah and others, hundreds of years before His birth. He is the Word made flesh. He was born fully human and fully divine dwelling in one body. We believe Jesus died to save us from our sins in obedience to the will of His Father. We believe, having been glorified, He ascended into the heavens and is now our intercessor before the throne of God the Father. Therefore, the only way to eternal life is by believing He died on the cross to atone for our sin and conquered death through his resurrection from the dead on the third day.

We believe the following: The Holy Spirit is the third person of the Trinity; the Comforter sent by God to empower His people to continue the work started by Jesus Christ’s earthly ministry. The Holy Spirit was sent by the Father to lead all believers into all truth. The Holy Spirit indwells all believers when we receive Jesus Christ into our hearts and works in us and through us to accomplish the Father’s will. The Holy Spirit enables us to pray so we may communicate and develop a relationship with God.
Biblical References: John 14:1-16:15, Romans 8:26-27, I Corinthians 2:11-12, I Corinthians 6:19
We believe the following: The Almighty God is the Creator of all things; out of nothing, God spoke all creation into being. God created man in His own likeness and image; each life being sacred. God instituted marriage between a man and a woman.
Biblical References: Genesis 1:1–2:31, Psalm 8:6-8, Psalm 139:13-16, Isaiah 45:18
We believe the following: No one is able to do good apart from God’s grace, having been cursed with a sinful nature, due to the sin of our first parents –Adam and Eve. We believe all sin is detestable to God. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” We believe as Christians we have been set free from the law which could not save man from sin. Nevertheless, it is by the law that sin is revealed.

We believe the following: Throughout history God has made Covenants with His people, first with Adam, then Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the father of the twelve tribes of Israel. He then made a Covenant with His chosen people, Israel, through Moses and King David. And finally, God made a New Covenant through the blood of His Son, Jesus Christ, which is extended to all who believe. We believe the teachings of Christ of a New Jerusalem where we will dwell in communion with the Trinity at the wedding supper of the Lamb. 11/12

We believe the following: The Church is the body of Christ consisting of believers with many God-given gifts and talents for the purpose of glorifying God. The mission of the Church is the proclamation of the Word, the administration of the Sacraments of Communion and Baptism, evangelism, equipping the saints and benevolence. 11/19
